Crewe\u2019s historic Municipal Buildings have been transformed from long-vacant council offices into a modern flexible workspace, following a comprehensive redevelopment delivered by Conlon Construction in the heart of the town centre.<\/p>\n
Working within the constraints of the existing structure, Conlon Construction delivered a full refurbishment of the building, including the removal of outdated internal layouts and services, and the reconfiguration of internal spaces to create a more open and efficient floorspace. Works also included upgrades to ceilings and lighting, replacement of internal doors and flooring, and the modernisation of mechanical and electrical systems, including heating and ventilation.<\/p>\n
The scheme also included the refurbishment of welfare facilities, including toilets, showers and kitchen areas, alongside the creation of an improved courtyard amenity space for building users.<\/p>\n
Careful consideration was given by Conlon to the historic nature of the building, including the removal and reinstatement of existing brickwork to facilitate a new glazed courtyard feature. Works were carefully managed within a live town centre environment, including coordination around local Market Day activity and regular liaison with neighbouring occupiers, including the Registrar\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Sustainability was embedded throughout delivery by Conlon Construction, with low-energy lighting and efficient building systems installed throughout. Conlon also worked closely with its supply chain to monitor and reduce carbon emissions during construction. Recycled office furniture supplied by Rype Office Furniture was incorporated into the fit-out, supporting circular economy principles.<\/p>\n
The project contributes to the wider regeneration of Crewe town centre by bringing a long-vacant civic building back into active use as a modern workspace, supporting local economic activity and strengthening the town\u2019s commercial offer.<\/p>\n
Community engagement was also delivered by Conlon throughout the scheme. The team worked with local partners including Men in Sheds, who provided bird boxes to enhance biodiversity, and a local college to explore opportunities for T-Level students to gain on-site experience.<\/p>\n
UK-based coworking and flexible workspace operator Town Sq has now taken management of the building, their CEO Gareth Jones, said:<\/p>\n
