Conlon Construction delivered the sensitive refurbishment of the Grand Vestibule at Winter Gardens Blackpool, carefully restoring one of the building’s most significant public spaces while enhancing accessibility and visitor experience.

As the principal entrance to the Grade II listed Winter Gardens complex, the Grand Vestibule plays a vital role in shaping visitors’ first impressions of one of the UK’s most celebrated entertainment destinations.

The Challenge

The project required the restoration of a highly visible heritage space within a live and operational venue, demanding specialist conservation techniques and meticulous attention to detail throughout.

Many of the original architectural features required careful repair and restoration, including historic terrazzo flooring, decorative finishes and entrance features that contribute significantly to the character of the building.

Our Solution

Conlon delivered a comprehensive programme of conservation and refurbishment works across the 130m² vestibule, including:

• Restoration of the historic entrance screen and doors
• Repair and refurbishment of original tiled walls, floors and surrounds
• Conservation works to external entrance steps
• Refurbishment of the internal and external ticket office
• Reconfiguration of the entrance lobby
• Relocation of the lift lobby to improve accessibility and visitor flow
• Specialist terrazzo floor restoration and repairs
• Heritage conservation works throughout the Grade II listed space

The programme combined traditional craftsmanship with modern accessibility improvements, ensuring the Vestibule continues to meet the needs of contemporary visitors while preserving its historic character.

The Outcome

The completed refurbishment has revitalised one of the most important spaces within Winter Gardens Blackpool, creating a welcoming and accessible arrival experience while safeguarding the heritage features that make the building unique.

Through the careful restoration of original materials and architectural details, the project has preserved an important part of Blackpool’s cultural heritage while enhancing the functionality and presentation of this landmark venue.
