Delivering a purpose-built operational base for Greater Manchester Police
Client: Greater Manchester Police
Conlon Construction delivered a new three-storey headquarters for Greater Manchester Police’s Special Operations Command, creating a modern operational hub that supports training, collaboration and rapid emergency response.
Designed to accommodate specialist policing functions, including the Armed Response Unit, the facility provides a secure, future-ready environment that enables officers and support teams to operate effectively in some of the most demanding circumstances.
The Challenge
The project required the delivery of a highly secure operational facility with specialist infrastructure capable of supporting emergency response activities, training and day-to-day policing operations.
Alongside the building itself, significant civil engineering works were required to improve site access and ensure rapid deployment capabilities.
Our Solution
Conlon delivered a comprehensive design and build programme, including:
- Three-storey steel-frame headquarters building
- Open-plan operational and administrative accommodation
- Dedicated training facilities
- Staff welfare and support spaces
- Full mechanical and electrical installations
- New emergency access road
- Highway and civil engineering works
- Extensive drainage infrastructure
- Secure parking facilities
- External lighting and landscaping
The development was designed to enhance operational readiness while providing a modern working environment that supports officer wellbeing and collaboration.
The Outcome
The completed facility provides Greater Manchester Police with a modern operational headquarters designed to support specialist policing activities for years to come.
Alongside the construction works, Conlon partnered with GMP to donate a publicly accessible defibrillator and protective housing to neighbouring New Smithfield Market, creating a lasting benefit for the wider community.
