Creating a modern school designed around every child’s needs
Client: Lancashire County Council
Conlon Construction delivered a new purpose-built primary school for Lancashire County Council, replacing the existing Weeton Primary School with a modern, future-ready learning environment designed to support pupils, staff and the wider community.
Using a timber frame construction approach, the project combined efficient delivery with high-quality educational spaces, creating a bright, welcoming and sustainable environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.
The Challenge
The project required the replacement of an ageing school building while maintaining educational provision for pupils on the existing site. The solution needed to deliver modern teaching facilities, specialist support spaces and improved external environments, all within a cost-effective and efficient construction programme.
Our Solution
Conlon adopted a timber frame construction methodology to reduce programme duration and improve efficiency, delivering:
- A new 210-place primary school
- Modern classrooms and teaching environments
- Dedicated therapy room
- Specialist Rainbow Room provision
- New school hall and communal facilities
- Staff and support accommodation
- Enhanced pedestrian access routes
- New vehicle access and site infrastructure
- Hard play and recreation facilities
- Comprehensive landscaping works
- New boundary treatments and security fencing
- Ball-stop fencing and external sports provision
Once the new school was fully operational, the existing school building was carefully demolished to complete the transformation of the site.
The Outcome
The completed school provides pupils with a modern, purpose-built learning environment that reflects the needs of contemporary education while offering specialist facilities that were previously unavailable.
By incorporating dedicated wellbeing and support spaces alongside high-quality teaching environments, the development has created a more inclusive and supportive setting for both pupils and staff.
The project also demonstrated Conlon’s commitment to responsible construction and community engagement, achieving a Considerate Constructors Scheme score of 42 out of 50, reflecting the care and professionalism shown throughout delivery.
I understand choosing a building firm to complete a contract is a difficult task – but I do not think you can go far wrong by choosing Conlon. The staff and children are enjoying the new facilities and their bigger, brighter and more airy surroundings.
