Delivering a headquarters that reflects both the business and its surroundings
Client: Lyon Equipment Limited
Conlon Construction delivered a new purpose-built headquarters for Lyon Equipment in Tebay, creating a modern workplace and operational facility designed to support the company’s continued growth while complementing its unique Lake District setting.
The development brought together office accommodation, staff facilities, retail space and storage within a contemporary building that balances functionality, sustainability and architectural quality.
The Challenge
Located on the edge of the Lake District National Park, the project required a design and construction approach that responded sensitively to its surroundings while meeting the operational needs of a growing specialist equipment business.
The existing warehousing on site needed to be removed and replaced with a modern facility capable of supporting multiple business functions, from administration and staff welfare through to retail and logistics operations.
Our Solution
Conlon delivered the project from demolition through to completion, including:
- Demolition of existing warehousing facilities
- Construction of a new purpose-built headquarters building
- Modern office accommodation
- Staff canteen and welfare facilities
- Factory retail outlet
- Warehouse and storage facilities
- High-quality external landscaping
- Cedar cladding, masonry and aluminium glazing systems
- Contemporary interior fit-out and finishes
The design was carefully developed to reflect the character of the surrounding landscape, using natural materials and architectural detailing that sit comfortably within the Cumbrian environment.
The Outcome
The completed development provides Lyon Equipment with a high-quality, future-ready headquarters that supports both operational efficiency and employee wellbeing.
By combining workplace, retail and storage functions within a single integrated facility, the project has created a versatile business hub that reflects the values of the organisation while enhancing its presence within the local area.
The quality of the development was recognised through the LABC Building Excellence Award for Best Small Commercial Building, highlighting the project’s successful blend of design, functionality and construction excellence.
The site was a happy one, and the management was exemplary. The end result was a project benefiting from genuine team working, co-operation, attention to detail and quality.
