Conlon Construction delivered a purpose-built Women’s Step Down Unit at Prestwich Hospital, providing specialist accommodation designed to support recovery, rehabilitation and independent living within a therapeutic environment. The new facility was developed for Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
The Challenge
The facility needed to balance clinical requirements with the creation of a comfortable, welcoming and supportive environment that promotes recovery and wellbeing for service users.
Our Solution
Conlon delivered a new single-storey facility featuring:

- Day room and dining facilities
- Kitchen and assisted kitchen
- Group activity rooms
- Interview rooms
- Administration facilities
- Staff welfare and locker areas
- Parking and landscaped external spaces
The purpose-built development was designed to create a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment while integrating seamlessly within the wider hospital estate.
The Outcome
The completed unit provides specialist accommodation that supports patient independence, rehabilitation and recovery, helping service users transition successfully through different stages of care within a purpose-designed setting.
Everyone at the Trust is very impressed by the finished product and it is seen as an exceptional environment for the patients who are occupying it.
