Conlon Construction delivered the design and build of TNT’s flagship distribution centre in Leyland, creating the largest depot within the company’s UK network and a major logistics hub capable of supporting nationwide operations.
Constructed on a ten-acre site at Moss Side, the development combined large-scale industrial infrastructure, operational efficiency and complex ground engineering to create a facility built for high-volume distribution and long-term growth.
The Challenge
The project required the delivery of a highly operational logistics facility capable of handling significant vehicle movements, freight volumes and distribution activity from day one.
The site itself presented substantial engineering challenges, requiring extensive earthworks and ground remediation works to prepare the land for development, alongside strict environmental and noise management requirements throughout construction.
Our Solution
Conlon delivered the project through a full design-and-build approach, including:
- Construction of a 2,980m² distribution warehouse
- Delivery of 67 loading bays
- Development of 1,192m² of office accommodation
- Security office and vehicle maintenance facilities
- 12,900m² of hardstanding and trailer storage areas
- Major site-wide earthworks and ground engineering
- Lime stabilisation of excavated materials
- Acoustic fencing to manage environmental impacts
- Surface water management infrastructure
- New attenuation pond and drainage systems
- Extensive landscaping and external works
The design prioritised operational efficiency, ensuring vehicles, freight and personnel could move safely and effectively throughout the site.
The Outcome
The completed development provided TNT with its largest depot in the UK, creating a strategically important logistics facility capable of supporting the demands of a national distribution network.
By combining high-capacity warehousing, extensive loading infrastructure and purpose-built operational facilities, the project delivered a future-ready asset that enhanced distribution capability while providing a safe, efficient and resilient working environment.
