Expanding care and support for children and families
Client: Derian House Trust
Conlon Construction delivered a major extension at Derian House Children’s Hospice, creating additional specialist accommodation and facilities to support the charity’s vital work with children, young people and their families. The project involved the construction of a new two-storey annex, linked to the existing hospice and complemented by extensive external works and infrastructure improvements.
The Challenge
The hospice required additional space to support growing demand while maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for children and families. The constrained site presented significant construction challenges, requiring new access arrangements, retaining structures and drainage infrastructure before the building works could begin.
Our Solution
Conlon delivered:
- A new two-storey annex extension
- Link corridor connecting the new and existing facilities
- Extensive drainage and external works
- New access road infrastructure
- Stormwater attenuation systems
- Retaining wall construction
- Alterations to the surrounding hospice grounds
The 912m² extension was constructed using traditional methods, including strip foundations, masonry walls, precast concrete floors and a tiled roof, creating a durable and welcoming environment designed to support the hospice’s long-term needs.
The Outcome
The completed development has significantly enhanced Derian House’s ability to provide specialist care and support to children and families across the region. Delivered within a sensitive healthcare setting, the project provides high-quality accommodation that enables the hospice to continue its life-changing work for years to come.
We are extremely impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the construction team.
