Creating a modern workplace for one of Britain’s leading manufacturers
Client: Leyland Trucks Ltd
Conlon Construction delivered the refurbishment and extension of office facilities at Leyland Trucks’ manufacturing headquarters, creating a modern, collaborative workplace designed to support the future growth and operational efficiency of one of Lancashire’s most significant employers.
The project transformed existing office accommodation across three floors, providing high-quality spaces that better reflect how modern teams work, collaborate and engage with visitors.
The Challenge
The refurbishment needed to be delivered within a live manufacturing environment, with business operations continuing throughout the programme. Maintaining continuity for employees while minimising disruption to day-to-day activities was critical to the project’s success.
At the same time, the development needed to create a more efficient and flexible workplace capable of supporting collaboration, innovation and visitor engagement.
Our Solution
Working closely with Leyland Trucks from the early stages of the project, Conlon helped shape the design and delivery strategy to maximise value, programme certainty and operational efficiency.
The project included:
- Extension and refurbishment of office accommodation across three floors
- Creation of a new conference and meeting facility
- Modern open-plan office environments
- New cafeteria and staff welfare spaces
- Visitor centre enhancements
- Relocation and refurbishment of the design hub
- Building services upgrades and modernisation works
- Phased delivery to minimise disruption to operational teams
Regular engagement with Leyland Trucks stakeholders ensured activities within occupied areas of the building could continue safely and efficiently throughout construction.
The Outcome
The completed development has created a contemporary workplace that supports collaboration, productivity and employee wellbeing while providing an improved experience for visitors and stakeholders.
Delivered on time and within budget, the project demonstrates the value of early contractor involvement, collaborative planning and proactive stakeholder management within complex live environments.
Today, the upgraded facilities provide Leyland Trucks with a modern headquarters that reflects its position as one of the UK’s leading truck manufacturers and supports the continued success of the business for years to come.
