Conlon Construction

Broadheath Primary School, Altrincham

Creating modern learning spaces for the next generation

Client: Manchester City Council

Conlon Construction delivered a new classroom block at Broadheath Primary School, replacing an ageing reception building with modern, purpose-built learning environments designed to support the school’s growing community.

Working on behalf of Manchester City Council, the project combined new-build construction with targeted internal improvements, creating flexible, high-quality spaces that enhance both teaching and learning.

The Challenge

The existing reception block had reached the end of its useful life and no longer reflected the needs of a modern primary school. The project required new teaching accommodation to be delivered within a live school environment while maintaining positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and neighbouring residents throughout construction.

Our Solution

Conlon delivered a comprehensive programme of works, including:

  • Demolition and replacement of the existing reception block
  • Construction of nine new classrooms
  • Dedicated reception learning environments
  • Internal remodelling works within the former children’s centre
  • Flexible teaching spaces using movable partition systems
  • New food technology teaching facilities
  • Kitchen equipment installation to support curriculum delivery
  • External landscaping and environmental improvements
  • Raised planting beds and educational garden spaces

Throughout the programme, regular newsletters and community updates ensured clear communication with both the school and local residents.

The Outcome

The completed development provides Broadheath Primary School with modern, flexible teaching accommodation that supports pupils from the earliest stages of their education.

Beyond the building itself, the project created additional value through enhanced outdoor learning opportunities, including a landscaped garden area and child-friendly gardening equipment designed to encourage engagement with nature and outdoor education.

The care and consideration shown throughout delivery were recognised through a Considerate Constructors Scheme Silver Award, reflecting Conlon’s commitment to quality, communication and community engagement on every project.

Ultimately, Conlon have really bought into our needs and requirements as a school and then made it their mission to deliver on these and I am most grateful for this.
