Cheadle Village Primary School, Stockport

Modernising a school while keeping education uninterrupted

Client: Stockport Council

Conlon Construction delivered a comprehensive five-phase refurbishment programme at Cheadle Village Primary School, transforming learning environments across the campus while ensuring pupils and staff could continue teaching and learning throughout the works.

Working on behalf of Stockport Council, the project combined extensive building fabric improvements with the complete modernisation of key facilities, creating a more efficient, comfortable and future-ready school environment.

The Challenge

The refurbishment required significant upgrades to both the building fabric and internal infrastructure while maintaining a fully operational school. Careful phasing, temporary accommodation and close collaboration with the school leadership team were essential to ensuring minimal disruption to pupils and staff.

Our Solution

Conlon delivered the programme across five carefully planned phases, including:

  • Temporary classroom accommodation to maintain continuity of education
  • Full internal refurbishment of teaching and support spaces
  • New plaster finishes and suspended ceilings
  • Complete redecoration throughout
  • New floor finishes
  • Furniture, fixtures and equipment installation
  • New kitchen and dining facilities
  • Refurbishment of all toilet facilities
  • Full electrical rewire
  • Replacement hot and cold water services
  • Complete roof replacement
  • Chimney and masonry repairs
  • New fascia boards, soffits, gutters and downpipes
  • Replacement windows and external doors
  • Localised brickwork repairs

The phased approach allowed sections of the school to be handed back progressively, enabling pupils to return to refurbished areas as quickly as possible.

The Outcome

The completed refurbishment has transformed Cheadle Village Primary School, creating modern learning environments supported by upgraded infrastructure and improved building performance.

By combining extensive internal improvements with significant investment in the building envelope and services, the project has extended the lifespan of the school while enhancing the day-to-day experience of pupils, teachers and staff.

The successful delivery of the five-phase programme demonstrates Conlon’s expertise in managing complex education refurbishments, ensuring schools remain operational while significant improvements are carried out safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption.
