Conlon Construction

Sports Pavilion, Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone

Creating modern sports facilities to support participation and community wellbeing

Client: Blackpool Council

Conlon Construction delivered a new sports pavilion and changing facility for Blackpool Council at the Blackpool Enterprise Zone, providing high-quality amenities for players, officials and visiting teams, alongside improved access and supporting infrastructure.

The Challenge

The project required the creation of a modern sports hub capable of supporting growing participation levels while ensuring accessibility, sustainability and ease of access for a wide range of users.

Alongside the pavilion itself, the wider site infrastructure needed upgrading to accommodate increased visitor numbers and improve connections for pedestrians, cyclists, coaches and vehicles.

Our Solution

Conlon delivered a purpose-built pavilion and associated infrastructure improvements, including:

  • Nine changing rooms, including accessible changing facilities
  • Toilets, kitchen and social space
  • Brick and timber-clad building envelope
  • Single-ply membrane pitched roof
  • Extension of the existing car park to provide 190 spaces
  • Dedicated coach parking facilities
  • Covered cycle storage
  • Widened road junction and improved site access
  • New pedestrian and cycle routes connecting to the pavilion

The Outcome

The completed development provides a modern, accessible base for sporting activity at the Enterprise Zone, supporting participants, officials and visitors alike.

By combining high-quality changing facilities with improved transport infrastructure and inclusive design, the project has enhanced the overall user experience while creating a facility that will support grassroots sport and community activity for years to come.
