Conlon Construction smashes fundraising target for St Catherine’s Hospice

Conlon Construction has raised more than £19,000 for its 2026 Charity of the Year, St Catherine’s Hospice, almost doubling its £10,000 annual fundraising target, with further challenges and events still to come.

The Lancashire-based, employee-owned contractor selected St Catherine’s because of the charity’s personal connection with the business. Many Conlon colleagues and members of its supply chain have had loved ones cared for by the hospice, which supports patients and families across Chorley, Preston and South Ribble affected by life-shortening conditions including cancer, motor neurone disease and heart failure.

A 11-strong Conlon team, including Managing Director and Chair Guy Parker, completed Born Survivor in the Ribble Valley for the second consecutive year. The 12km military-style obstacle course features more than 30 challenges, including mud, climbing walls, tunnels and water obstacles, with the team raising £10,385.

The company’s annual Golf Day also delivered one of its biggest fundraising totals to date, raising £7,000 in May. Held at Shaw Hill Golf & Spa hotel, the event brought together clients, suppliers and industry partners, whose generous contributions made it Conlon’s most successful charity Golf Day yet.

Conlon Site Manager Dale Captstick took fundraising to new heights by completing the Commando Challenge route across Hardangervidda in Norway, Europe’s largest high mountain plateau. The 80-mile challenge took four days to complete in difficult weather conditions, with temperatures dipping to -15 degrees. While Managing Director and Chair Guy Parker took on Dales Way from Bowness to Harrogate, walking over 100 miles in six days.

Conlon has supported a Charity of the Year for a number of years, with colleagues, clients and supply chain partners raising money for causes with a direct connection to its local communities. In 2025, the company raised £17,232 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation through a series of challenges and events.

The fundraising programme forms part of Conlon’s wider commitment to creating lasting social value in the communities in which it works, alongside local employment and supply chain opportunities, apprenticeships, skills development and education.

And there is still more to come, Conlon will also support the St Catherine’s Santa Dash at Preston Docks in December, with further fundraising initiatives planned for the remainder of 2026.

Guy Parker, Managing Director and Chair of Conlon Construction, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to have already exceeded our £10,000 fundraising target for St Catherine’s, raising £19,000 so far this year.

“St Catherine’s is a charity that means a great deal to many people at Conlon and across our supply chain. Many of us have had loved ones benefit from their care, so being able to support the hospice as our Charity of the Year has been particularly meaningful.

“What’s made the fundraising particularly special is how our colleagues, clients and supply chain partners have got behind it together. Those relationships extend well beyond the projects we deliver, and raising this amount for an organisation that provides such important support within our local communities is something we can all be proud of.”

James Da Costa, Corporate Partner at St Catherine’s Hospice, said:

“Working alongside the team at Conlon throughout the year has a been a pleasure. They’re a model example of how a Charity of the Year partnership can flourish and have a real teambuilding focus, boosting staff engagement and raising hospice awareness not just through their own business but extending to customers, contractors and suppliers. On behalf of St Catherine’s, thank you for all your support, we look forward to seeing you at Preston Docks for Santa Dash 2026”
