Conlon Construction, together with Cassidy + Ashton, have been appointed by BAE Systems and the Avro Heritage Trust to design and build a new museum at the former Woodford Aerodrome site.
The 11,700 sq ft museum will house Avro Heritage Trust’s collection of aviation history exhibits, including a full-sized Vulcan bomber.
The project will involve the conversion of the existing aerodrome fire station into an exhibition hall, gallery and a café. There will also be reading rooms and classrooms for school visits.
Work on site will begin in August and the project is expected to be complete in February 2015.
Michael Conlon, Chairman, said,
We’re delighted to have been appointed to deliver this project which will be a fitting location to house the many artefacts which so many people have worked tirelessly to maintain.
