Conlon Wins Considerate Award For Third Year

March 30, 2012 - News

Conlon Construction has been named as one of the most considerate building firms in the country for the third year running.

Bamber Bridge-based Conlon received a National Site Award for their work on the Wellfield Junior School project in Sale, Manchester, after going out of their way to consider the needs of the local community.

During the 16 week project, the safety of the children was paramount to Conlon as they extended the rear of the existing school building creating a new classroom, with the use of only one access point into the building for contractors, school children and staff.

By carefully creating a locking door corridor, it enabled Conlon to access the building without interfering with the children’s safety or play time activities as the site backed onto the children’s playing field. Whilst construction was underway, to ensure the school children and staff were safe at all times, the team would take up to fifteen minutes to enter the building.

Construction director, Michael Conlon, said:

We are all thrilled to have won a National Site Award for the third year running.  Wellfield School was a delightful project to work on and it was great for us to have the support and involvement of the local community.

We see this involvement as an important part of our work, especially on education projects as it encourages the children to feel a part of their school environment, as well as learning about the potential hazards of playing near construction sites.

Conlon’s latest award, presented by Operations Director CCI NW (Centre for Construction Innovation North West), Roy Stewart, ranks them in the top 8% of UK construction firms registered with the Considerate Constructors scheme.  Conlon Construction has also been shortlisted for the Constructing Excellence Awards in May.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards are held annually and recognise sites’ excellent standards of consideration towards their workforce, their neighbours and the environment. Companies can win either bronze, silver or gold for a site registered with the scheme after being assessed by an independent panel.

Conlon Construction completed work on the Wellfield Primary School in August 2011.
