A look at some of our recent projects, from specialist education facilities and new schools to major town centre regeneration.
We continue to demonstrate the breadth of work we are delivering across the North West, with a few of our recent projects supporting investment in education, regeneration and local communities.
As a contractor appointed to the North West Construction Hub (NWCH) framework, we have a long-standing relationship with NWCH and public sector clients across the region. We have been involved in 36 NWCH projects and counting…
Here we take a look at just some of our recent activity across the region.
£4.8m Specialist Education Expansion Opens in Salford
One of our latest NWCH projects has seen the completion of a £4.8 million specialist annexe at Springwood Primary School in Salford, delivered on behalf of Salford City Council.
The new 500 sq m facility, known as ‘The Nest’, creates additional specialist facilities for up to 40 pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), aged between four and 11. The building includes four classrooms with dedicated quiet and storage rooms, flexible learning areas, staff facilities, sensory provision and indoor and outdoor spaces designed around the needs of pupils and staff.
Crucially for NWCH, we were appointed through the North West Construction Hub under a Design and Build contract. The project also achieved a 10% biodiversity net gain within the site boundaries, incorporating new trees and wildflowers alongside Sustainable Drainage Systems.
Social value was embedded within delivery too. We worked with the school and our supply chain on improvements including clearing pathways and providing a new summerhouse, while training opportunities were provided for a T Level student and local employment was prioritised where possible. The works were completed ahead of programme, allowing the school early access ahead of its September 2026 intake.
Unlocking the Future of Bury Town Centre
We are also helping to unlock a major regeneration opportunity at Pyramid Park in Bury, where we have been appointed by Bury Council to undertake extensive remediation works.
Significantly, Pyramid Park is our first appointment with Bury Council through the North West Construction Hub, demonstrating how the framework is helping to create new relationships between public sector clients and the regional construction supply chain.
The wider regeneration proposals for Pyramid Park and Q-Park are expected to provide around 215 new homes, comprising approximately 138 homes at Pyramid Park and a further 77 at Q-Park. The development also connects with wider proposals for a new transport interchange and improved pedestrian access.
We are delivering remediation and site-enabling works at Pyramid Park, helping prepare the brownfield site for its future development. Watson Construction are then expected to take over for the construction phase.
The development provides a great example of how early construction and enabling works can help unlock land for much-needed housing and wider regeneration.
Darren Lee, our commercial director, said:
“We are proud to be working with Bury Council on such a pivotal regeneration project at Pyramid Park.
“This site has huge potential to positively transform the town centre, and we’re looking forward to delivering the enabling works that will unlock it for high-quality housing.
“It’s especially rewarding to be involving local businesses throughout and supporting the borough’s growth and community aspirations.”
Kingsbourne Academy Welcomes Its First Pupils
Education delivery also continues to feature strongly within our recent portfolio, with Kingsbourne Academy in Nantwich opening its doors to its first pupils in September 2026.
The purpose-built primary school serves the growing Kingsbourne community and will eventually provide places for 210 primary-aged children. Facilities include modern classrooms and extensive learning, sport and play provision.
We also incorporated sustainability and social value into the project, working with local suppliers and engaging future pupils during construction. Local children were invited to sign a structural steel beam, allowing the pupils to leave a permanent mark within their new school before it opened.
The project adds to our education work with Cheshire East Council. Another recent project, the expansion of Wilmslow High School, was explicitly procured through the North West Construction Hub Framework, providing additional pupil capacity alongside new teaching and sports facilities.
Partnership, Place and Public Benefit
Taken together, these projects demonstrate the range of outcomes we can achieve through collaborative public sector construction, from creating inclusive specialist learning environments and additional school places to unlocking brownfield land for future homes and regeneration.
For NWCH, projects such as Springwood Primary School, Pyramid Park and Wilmslow High School also demonstrate how frameworks can support public sector clients in accessing established contractors while keeping a focus on wider outcomes, including sustainability, social value and benefits for local communities.
Having been appointed to the NWCH Framework for a third successive iteration, our relationship provides further opportunity to support public sector investment and deliver positive outcomes for communities across the North West.
Darren Lee, our commercial director, said:
“Securing a third consecutive place on the NWCH framework is a fantastic milestone for Conlon Construction. Over more than a decade of working together, we’ve partnered with councils and public sector clients to deliver projects that create real opportunities for local people and businesses, from supporting local supply chains to creating training and apprenticeship opportunities across the North West.
“The North West Construction Hub Framework has also played an important role in our growth as a business. Its focus on early collaboration allows us to build strong relationships with clients from the outset, giving us the opportunity to plan ahead, invest in our people and continue developing our presence across the region. As an employee-owned business, that long-term approach fits closely with our values, and we’re looking forward to building on what we’ve achieved together.”
