Work is underway on a million pound refurbishment at one of the University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) student buildings.
Conlon Construction has begun work on a £1.9m project to re-vamp UCLan’s Foster Building in Preston.
The 900 sq m refurbishment will provide students with a new reception hall, three new lecture theatres, and a brand new state-of-the-art medical centre.
The development, which will replace the old disused sports hall facilities, is set to open in September 2012, ready for the new intake of students.
Conlon will also create new external landscaping and footpaths, disabled access routes and a lift to the upper floors of the building.
Construction director Michael Conlon, said:
Conlon has extensive experience in the education sector from nurseries through to university buildings such as this. It will be wonderful to see the students at UCLan settle into these new facilities which will benefit all those who attend the university for many years to come.
UCLan Principal Surveyor, Dave Price, commented:
Conlon has delivered a number of successful projects for the University and I am sure this will be another quality project finished on time.
The project is set for completion in advance of the new academic year on 31 August 2012.
